SLC study confirms enormous regional economic impact of 1. FC Nürnberg on the city and region of Nuremberg
1. FC Nürnberg has been in existence for 125 years and is deeply rooted in the city of Nuremberg and the Franconia region across generations. The club and its fans shape the city, even beyond match days. This close connection became particularly clear in the anniversary year. The SLC report now proves in black and white that the club is not only a local landmark, but also a significant economic factor. 1. FC Nürnberg generates a regional economic effect for the city of Nuremberg and the region amounting to €178.2 million per season.

On November 28, 2025, the report for 1. FC Nürnberg was presented at a press conference with Jens Jaschinski (Director Consultancy, SLC Management), Christian Vogel (Mayor of the City of Nürnberg), Thorsten Brehm (City Councilor for Finance, Human Resources, and IT), Stefan Heim (Chief Financial Officer, 1. FC Nürnberg), and Maximilian Madeja (Managing Partner, SLC Management) at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg. (Photos: FCN - from left to right)
The survey was conducted using both secondary research and extensive primary research in the form of surveys of 1. FC Nürnberg fans, visiting fans of other clubs, and a representative sample of the population with a total of over 17,000 respondents. The study examined the following effects: employment, gastronomy, hotel industry, turnover, investments, CSR structure, taxes, awareness, and image. The city benefits particularly from the club in the areas of catering (€35.9 million), hotels (€35.3 million), and awareness & image (€53.1 million). In addition, the regional economic effects that a complete stadium renovation, as is currently under discussion, would generate were also calculated.
Christian Vogel, Mayor, City of Nuremberg "The study by SLC Management now shows in black and white what we in Nuremberg have long felt: the club is not only an emotional figurehead for this city, it also creates value locally – in hotels, restaurants, service providers and municipal businesses. And with a modern stadium, these effects could actually be even greater. That's good news for Nuremberg."
Thorsten Brehm, City Councilor for Finance, Human Resources, and IT, City of Nuremberg: "The study confirms that the municipal stadium and the club are a relevant economic driver for Nuremberg. A modern renovation is an investment in the future – with value for the city, the economy, and the people. The study proves the benefits of a complete renovation and complements our economic feasibility study of the project."
Stefan Heim, Chief Financial Officer, 1. FC Nürnberg e.V.: "The 125th anniversary celebrations impressively demonstrated how deeply rooted 1. FC Nürnberg and Franconia are in each other. FCN connects people, creates identity, brings together forces in the region, and expresses the pride of Franconia. I am very pleased that the figures now clearly confirm that the club is also an important economic factor for the city and the metropolitan region. The study also shows that a complete renovation of the Max-Morlock-Stadion will further enhance these positive effects for the city, the region, and the club."
Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja, Scientific Director, SLC Management: "With its eventful history, including as Germany's second most successful club, 1. FC Nürnberg has a special significance for the city and the people in the region. This study now manages to quantify this significance in monetary terms, thus making it tangible. The report shows that the city of Nuremberg benefits from the "Club" in many ways. 1. FC Nürnberg is thus on a par with Bundesliga clubs, and the renovation of the stadium will enable it to become an even greater economic factor than it already is."
