According to the latest survey, the image of the national team has the worst value in the era of national coach Joachim Löw. This is 3.84 on a scale from 1 (very good) to 5 (poor). For comparison: in June 2015, the image value of 1.78 was still in the very good range. Since then, the image has steadily declined. Fan identification with the DFB selection has also suffered greatly over the past five years. Identification dropped from a 2.39 to 3.56. The increasing alienation of German football fans from their national team, which has been the subject of much discussion in recent months and years, is confirmed by these representative fan opinions and data.

Around 5300 registered fans and sympathisers took part in the surveys, and they regularly take part in surveys about their club, the Bundesliga and the national team. "On the one hand, respondents are thus closer to football than participants in general surveys. In addition, the registered participants are continuously surveyed over the years, which allows us to understand the individual feelings of football fans in a very concrete way," says SLC Managing Director Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja.
